About The Haven

Our Mission

The Haven strives to promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of everyone impacted by—or potentially impacted by—HIV, stigma, or lack of support. We work to provide a safe place where community members can come together to live and love without judgment and work together to educate, empower, and encourage all to embrace their worth in a fun, safe, and comfortable environment.

Our Goal

Our goal is to help eliminate new transmissions of HIV in Memphis and the Mid-South and empower those we serve to become their healthiest, happiest selves. Wondering how we make that happen? Click one of the buttons below to learn more about how our team is helping our Mid-South Friends live happily and healthily.  Here’s how we do it:

Our Impact

Our team at The Haven takes pride in the impact we have on our Mid-South community. Since our birth in 2013, we’ve worked relentlessly to provide a safe space to connect with our Mid-South Friends. Read below to find out more about our community impact! Here’s how we do it:

  • In addition to providing free and confidential testing, we work hard to educate our community. Because stigma is reduced through education, our team offers sexual health literacy classes to keep our Mid-South Friends educated on how to engage in healthy sexual practices. We also offer free condom distribution to individuals and groups.

  • Through our Mpowerment program, our team provides motivational coaching and team building for youth and young adults to explore their barriers to focusing on healthy sexual practices. Our staff provides these services through mentorship, community advocacy, venting sessions, and mental health group sessions. Through activities like cooking classes and pageants, people tend to leave educated and empowered on topics and issues such as positive mental health practices, local current events, community building, voting, spiritual health, and more!

  • Our Lift Up Your Love program assesses the level of comfort with same gender love and HIV prevention in faith-based organizations and associated groups. We work with faith leaders to bring awareness and support to their communities. The program began in 2019 and is still going strong today! Interested in working with us through our Lift Up Your Love program? Contact us by email or by completing an online contact form!

  • Education is also increased through our outreach activities. Our team often attends health fairs, college campus fairs, drag performance shows, night clubs, church health fairs, and farmers' markets. We also distribute condoms, lubricant, and free merchandise and apparel. Wondering where we will be next? Take a look at our calendar of events below!

Listen up!

Lend us your ears? Laugh and learn with your witty, fun hosts and The Haven team members Drea and Krista about sex, stigma, science, and the South! Our team at The Haven works with reFocus to produce PrEPPED Podcast, a podcast all about the benefits of PrEP and our ever-evolving world of sex, stigma, science, and the South. We created this podcast to help share information about PrEP, living without stigma, and healthy sexual practices. We use this platform to discuss taboo subjects, including debunking myths about sex, and stigma in the church, home, education, and the media. The podcast is released every other week and is available on Spotify, Apple Podcast, and most podcast-hosting platforms.
